Since Pianoteq’s initial release in 2006, MODARTT has continued to develop the Pianoteq physical model for each major release. Pianoteq 9 Pro sets the new standard, with a revoiced selection of pianos filtered through an enhanced soundboard model for even more gorgeous-sounding, uber-expressive, and supremely playable instruments. The Pro edition unlocks the best the program has to offer, featuring robust recording and sound-sculpting tools with audio rates supported up to 192kHz. These tools let you adjust physical parameters such as microtuning, unison width, hammer hardness, soundboard, and string length, as well as 30 parameters for each note on the keyboard. It also lets you choose from up to five mics and position them for your desired placement and perspective. For a wealth of virtual piano models, studio-grade clarity and realism, and an array of tweakable parameters, MODARTT Pianoteq 8 Pro delivers.
The physical modeling advantage
Physical modeling offers important advantages over samples, favoring the individual components of an acoustic instrument for more accurate, complex performance characteristics. The process creates individually modeled instrument components, offering more complete control over basic parameters like pedal state, cabinet resonance, and mechanical noise. The comprehensive software offers rich piano sounds sculpted from this detailed modeling process, along with expansive adjustments of physical parameters such as lid position, sympathetic string resonance, unison width, octave stretching, string length, hammer hardness, the soundboard, duplex scale resonance, and more.
Morphing and Layering
Last we checked, instruments like XyloHarp, VibraDrum, and GlockenTines do not exist in the real world. But in the world of physical modeling, anything is possible. That’s why you’ll find these intriguing hybrid instruments in Pianoteq, thanks to the software’s innovative Morphing feature. The morphing is handled at the physical modeling level, bestowing sonic authority and shimmering acoustic authenticity on instruments that never existed. Additionally, Pianoteq 8’s Layering feature lets you mix several instruments together by playing, for example, a bass marimba in the low range, a xylophone in the high range, and a blend of both in the middle range.
Enhanced soundboard modeling
Pianoteq 9 incorporates a newly enhanced soundboard model featuring completely re-voiced pianos to create an even more authentic experience. This improvement allows for more complex tones, with adjustable parameters for everything from hammer hardness, string tuning, and temperament to reverb, resonance, brilliance, and timbre. Moreover, Pro supports audio rates up to 192kHz for crystal-clear, professional-grade sound and includes adjustments of up to 30 parameters for each note on the keyboard.
The world’s finest pianos, at your beck and call
MODARTT has collaborated with the finest piano manufacturers, including Steinway & Sons, Steingraeber & Söhne, Bechstein, Blüthner, Grotrian, and Petrof. Each company reviewed not only the sound but also the playability of their physically modeled instruments, offering feedback and tweaks. Only after each manufacturer signed off on these models were they included in the Pianoteq collection, offering you officially vetted recreations of the world’s most sought-after pianos. In Pianoteq 8 Pro, you get to choose four instrument packs’ worth of tone from this diverse collection.
Pianos that spring to life
What’s really amazing about MODARTT Pianoteq 9 is its realism. Strike a key on your MIDI controller, and it’s as though there’s a piano there that you can reach out and touch. That’s because MODARTT’s Pianoteq 9 creates the sound of the piano in real time, taking into account all of the complex factors that make the piano so vivid. You’ll hear the interaction between the strings, the use of pedals, the cabinet resonance, and the position of the hammers. From the most delicate pianissimo to the strongest fortissimo, what you express on the keyboard will sound pure and natural through Pianoteq 9.
